At the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle one spring, Katherine
heard music that intrigued her so she pushed her way through
the crowd toward the stage where it was coming from. It was then
that she laid eyes upon the Gypsy Caravan tribal belly dancers. Katherine
had no interest in belly dance whatsoever until that day. She immediately
began to seek out information about Gypsy Caravan and tribal belly dance
and embarked on her belly dance journey.
Her first instructor was Melissa Ruby. She studied with Ruby for a short time
and then her belly dance interest was put on hold while she went back to
school. After graduation, she started dance classes again and took from many
instructors, eventually studying primarily with Alexandra for several years.
However, Katherine's interest in tribal belly dance never died and in 2005 she
became a founding member of Wild Serenity Dance Tribe. Katherine also
owns Silk Road Tribal, a retail tribal costuming business.
Katherine's passion for belly dance has changed her life and she owes much
gratitude to Paulette Rees-Denis and the Gypsy Caravan dancers for sparking
the flame and the positive influence and beauty it has added to her life.
